January 20, 2024 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Spitfires fell to the hands of the Greyhounds by a score of 6-2 to start the weekend. They were looking to avenge the loss in Brantford on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs had other plans as they would skate to a 5-1 win.
In the first period, the Spitfires went down 2-0 with goals from Vanacker and Nelson 11 minutes apart. Less than three minutes later, the Spitfires were able to respond late in the period. Davis and Zhugin got the puck on goal and Zito scored on the rebound for his 3rd goal of the season. After 20 minutes it was 2-1 Brantford on the scoreboard and 13-11 in shots for the Bulldogs.
In the second period, the Spitfires dominated the play but could not find an equalizer. They had a powerplay opportunity but could not score with the man-advantage. Just over halfway through the frame, the Spitfires would turn it over and the Bulldogs would capitalize and make it a 3-1 game. After 40 minutes, the Bulldogs led 3-1 on the scoreboard and 24-19 in shots.
In the third period, the Spitfires started with an abbreviated powerplay but couldn't score. Greentree dropped the mitts after Zhugin was cross-checked from behind and Greentree got the extra 2 minutes for a cross-check. On the powerplay, Brantford would score to make it 4-1. Eight minutes later, the Bulldogs would score again out of mid-air and go up 5-1. That would do it as the Spitfires lost their second straight game.
The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow Sunday January 21st vs the Oshawa Generals. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05pm.
