Greenville Drive News Release
Winston-Salem, N.C. - With a runner on third base and the score tied at 1-1 in the 10th inning, Cole Brannen skied a ball to the right-center field gap that one-hopped the wall for an inside-the-park home run to propel the Drive to a 3-2 win Saturday night at Truist Stadium.
It was Brannen's second home run of the year and the Drive's first extra-inning win of the season. Additionally, Greenville (18-17) is above .500 for the first time this year.
Overall, Greenville registered nine hits on the night. Christian Koss and Dom D'Allessandro each tallied two hits. D'Allessandro swatted his first home run in a Drive uniform.
Zach Bryant earned the win for the Drive after hurling 2.0 innings with two strikeouts. He didn't allow a hit or walk but surrendered the unearned run in the 10th after a runner was placed on second to begin the frame.
The Drive's starter, Grant Gambrell, who was also making his debut with the team, didn't allow a hit through his first three innings of work. For the day, he hurled 5.0 innings and allowed just one run on three hits, one homer and one walk with one strikeout. Dylan Spacke pitched 2.0 perfect innings and fanned two.
Sal Biasi took the loss after he relented the two-run homer to Brannen in the 10th.
Greenville tallied three hits in the first but was unable to cash in a run.
In the fourth, however, D'Allessandro broke the scoreless tie with a deep one-out home run to left-center field.
But the lead didn't last long, as Winston-Salem plated a run in the bottom half of the fourth on a Lenyn Sosa solo shot to tie it at 1-1.
Brannen then broke the tie in the 10th with his two-run inside-the-park home run.
Winston-Salem added a run in the bottom of the 10th on a Tyler Osik RBI groundout but couldn't get any closer.
The series finale is set for 2:00 PM at Trust Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC. The Drive are scheduled to throw right-hander Chase Shugart while the Dash are slated to throw right-hander Jeremiah Burke.
