San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls downed the Bakersfield Condors in their third matchup of the season as goaltender John Gibson stopped 30-of-31 shots faced in the victory.
Stu Bickel took matters into his own hands just 1:38 into the first period, dropping the gloves with Bakersfield winger Mitch Moroz and setting the tone for San Diego. Joseph Cramarossa netted his second goal in consecutive games just 1:27 later, putting the Gulls up by one just over three minutes into the game.
Brandon Montour also added his second of the season on a pass in the slot by forward Stefan Noesen. Montour's goal came only 8:28 into the game, increasing the Gulls' lead to two, early in the first. Shane O'Brien maintained the excitement as he fought Jujhar Khaira, the second fight of the game.
The Gulls continued to increase their lead to three on a goal by alternate captain Harry Zolnierczyk with 3:31 remaining in the first period, giving the Gulls a comfortable lead as they headed into the intermission. In all, seven different San Diego players recorded points in the first period alone.
The second period proved to be no different than the first with Gulls defensemen Montour (2-2=4) connecting for his second goal of the game, his third of the season. Antoine Laganiere (1-2=3) and Harry Zolnierczyk (1-1=2) each added assists.
Laganiere added the Gulls fifth of the game at 7:46 of the final period, increasing the Gulls lead to five. Forward Matt Bailey added his first of the season as San Diego captured its sixth victory at home.
The Gulls return to Valley View Casino Center on Friday for their first of back-to-back matchups vs. the San Jose Barracuda. San Diego will wear its road black jerseys as a continuation of special Military Appreciation Week activities.
