Pirates Loan Sauve to Manchester; Release Larraza from PTO

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced that they have loaned defenseman Yann Sauve to the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL. The club also announced that it has released forward Zac Larraza from his Professional Tryout Contract.

Sauve, a 6-foot-3, 209 pound defenseman from Montreal, Quebec, has played in three games so far this season with the Pirates. He notched one assist and one point over that time.

In his sixth pro season, Sauve was selected in the Second Round (41st Overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks. He has played a total of eight NHL games, all with Vancouver.

Larraza, a 6-foot-2, 200 pound left wing from Scottsdale, Arizona, played two games with Portland after signing a Professional Tryout Contract with the Pirates on November 2. He played in two games for Portland, picking up an assist in his debut on November 4 against the Utica Comets.

A rookie selected in the Seventh Round (196th Overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes, Larraza scored two goals and one assist for three points in three games with the Manchester Monarchs before signing with Portland. Before turning pro, Larraza played four seasons of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey for the University of Denver Pioneers.

Both Sauve and Larraza will join the Monarchs in time for their home game tomorrow night against the Toledo Walleye.

The Pirates conclude their three-game home stand as they go for a two-game sweep of the Hartford Wolf Pack tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. It's Military Appreciation Night, Presented by Dunkin Donuts! The Pirates will wear special patriotic jerseys in appreciation of all branches of the United States Military. The game-worn jerseys will be put up for online auction in the week following the game, with proceeds to benefit to the Travis Mills Foundation.
