
Branch Named CHL Goalie of the Week

TULSA, OK- Tulsa goaltender Rod Branch has been named the Central Hockey League's Goaltender of the Week for last week, the CHL front office announced this afternoon.
Branch went a perfect 2-0-0 during the week, including a 4-0 shutout against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Saturday night when he made 28 saves. On Friday night, Branch almost single-handedly kept the Oilers in the game, stopping 47 of 48 shots he faced and then allowing only two of seven shootout attempts en route to an Oilers 2-1 shootout victory over the Indianapolis Ice.
On the season, Branch has led the Oilers to a perfect 4-0-0 record, tying the best start in franchise history (99-00). Branch ranks highly among other goalies in the CHL, including first among players that have played more than one game with an astounding goals against average of .960. Other league statistical categories that Branch stands out in include 153 saves (first in CHL), 250 minutes played (second in CHL), .975 save percentage (second in CHL), and .800 shootout percentage (second in CHL).
Branch earned goaltender of the week honors twice last season and set a CHL record for minutes played between the pipes with 3,656.
The Oilers will look to win their fifth-straight tomorrow night as the defending CHL champions the Memphis RiverKings come to town. The puck drops at 7:05 at the Tulsa Convention Center.
