SCORPIONS MATCH-UPS -

ODESSA - The Jackalopes will be looking for revenge on a number of fronts. First, the Scorpions rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 in overtime in the season opener on Oct. 18 at Tingley Coliseum. Next, the Jackalopes were humbled at home by Corpus Christi 6-3 on Saturday. Defenseman Scott Hillman leads Odessa with five points (2g-3a) in four games. John Bossio, Mike Rutter and Matt Cressman each have three points. Goalie Mike Gorman has started all four games, posting a 2.87 GAA and .906 save percentage.

EL PASO - It's been a slow start for new coach Craig Coxe and the Buzzards, who dropped their first four games before blasting Corpus Christi yesterday 6-2. Jeff Scharf, Russ Guzior, Troy Linna and Rhett Dudley all have four points to lead the Buzzards. Goalie Matt Carmichael has played all five games, and despite his record, has respectable numbers with a 2.62 GAA and .914 save percentage. The Scorpions face the Buzzards 11 times this season, most of any opponent. El Paso also leads the league with an average of 37.6 PIM per game.

LUBBOCK - The Cotton Kings will try to rebound after a suffering a pair of setbacks last weekend, 3-2 in overtime at Austin on Friday and 4-2 to Laredo on Saturday in their home opener. Blaz Emersic leads the Kings with seven points (4g-3a), followed by veterans Derek Gauthier (2g-2a) and James Sheehan (1g-3a) with four points each. Goalie Mike Brusseau has played every minute so far for coach Bill McDonald, posting a 2.75 GAA and .904 save percentage. The Cotton Kings are winless since a 6-0 win at Amarillo on Opening Night, including a 4-2 loss to the Scorpions on Oct. 19.

AMARILLO - The Scorpions finish their tortuous four games in five nights road trip with the initial matchup against their I-40 rivals, the newly renamed Gorillas. Amarillo split their two games last week, beating Fort Worth 7-4 on Friday before losing to Austin 4-2 on Saturday. Winger Henry Kuster leads the league with six goals and is tied for third in the CHL with eight points. Former Scorpion Joe Ferras returns for his second season as coach in Amarillo and has three former Scorps with him in defenseman Mark DeSantis, goalie Steve Debus and assistant coach Brian Pellerin. Debus is 1-1 with a 2.64 GAA. The Gorillas lead the league with four shorthanded goals scored.

RICHARDS RIPS IT UP - After being named CHL Player of the Week, Scorpions center Chris Richards seemed hard-pressed to keep his early pace. He didn't just maintain it, he improved upon it. Richards had the game-winning goal and an assist in Friday's 3-2 win at San Angelo, then scored a highlight-reel goal and added three assists in Saturday's 6-2 win over Fort Worth. Richards is tied for the CHL lead with 11 points (4g-7a) in his first four games.

TWO IS THE ONE - The Scorpions have an impressive streak going so far, allowing just two goals in each of their first four games, good for the third best goals against average in the league. As such, goalies Luciano Caravaggio and Scott Myers are among the top ten goalies in the league. Caravaggio has a 1.94 GAA while Myers has an even 2.00 GAA. Both have strong save percentages as well, with Myers stopping 93.2% of shots against and Caravaggio turning aside 92.5% of the opposition's chances.

STINGERS - Besides the Scorpions, only Austin and Tulsa remain perfect at 4-0 in the CHL. Veteran winger Peter Ambroziak is one of two players in the CHL with two game-winning goals to his credit this season. He is also tied for second with three power play goals. Mario Dumoulin (3g-2a) and Arturs Kupaks (5a) are among a gaggle of defensemen tied for second in blueliner scoring with five points. Dumoulin has scored in each of the last three Scorpions games. The Scorpions are perfect in the third period this season, scoring five times and allowing none. The Scorpions are first in the CHL on the power play with a 29 percent conversion rate and second with nine man-up goals scored.
