The Central Hockey League has today announced that Corpus Christi IceRays center Rob Giffin and Tulsa Oilers netminder Rod Branch have respectively been named the Player and Goaltender of the Week for Week Two of the CHL season.

Giffin, in his first season with Corpus Christi, broke loose for 10 points in just three contests the past week. Giffin first enjoyed back-to-back four point outings in wins over Laredo (1 goal, 3 assists) and Odessa (2 goals, 2 assists), then chipped in with two assists in a 6-2 loss to El Paso. The Peterborough native has 12 points in his first five contests, and sits atop the CHL scoring race. Giffin and linemates Layne Roland and John Sicinski have accounted for a total of 28 points already this season.

Veteran Tulsa backstop Rod Branch also excelled this week, helping the Oilers maintain their perfect 4-0-0 start to the season with a pair of exceptional performances. The Fort St. John, British Columbia native turned aside all 28 Bossier-Shreveport shots Saturday evening in a 4-0 victory to post the 4th CHL shutout this season, and made 47 saves, many of the outstanding variety, in Tulsa's 2-1 shootout win over Indianapolis the evening before. Branch was named the Playoff Most Valuable Player for the 2000/2001 CHL post-season, leading the Oklahoma City Blazers to the Ray Miron Cup title.
