Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

ICERAYS REWIND: The IceRays took 2 of 3 games this weekend that included their first road victory of the season. The Rays started the weekend Friday night with a 5-3 win over the Laredo Bucks at Memorial Coliseum, the second time in eight days they've beaten the Bucks. Layne Roland (Vernon, BC) and John Sicinski (Mississauga, ON) each had two goals and an assist while Rob Giffin (Toronto, ON) had a goal and three assists. On Saturday the IceRays continued their hot play on the road in Odessa and left the Ector County Coliseum with a 6-3 victory. Eddy Skazyk (Lockport, MB) made his first start in net of the season and turned away 42 Jacks' shots including 20 in the first period. Meanwhile the line of Giffin, Sicinski, and Roland continued to wreak havoc accounting for 10 points for the second consecutive night. Brett Colborne (Clearwater, BC) and Cosmo Dupaul (Pointe-Claire, PQ) both picked up their first goals in an IceRays jersey. On Sunday the IceRays couldn't complete the weekend sweep as they fell at the hands of the El Paso Buzzards 6-2 at the El Paso County Coliseum. Goalie Matt Carmichael was brilliant in net for the Buzzards stopping 38 IceRays' shots. Sicinski and Roland each scored for the Rays and Giffin added two more assists.

REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS: With the victory over Odessa on Saturday, the IceRays became the first team in franchise history to start the season 4-0. The previous record was the 3-0 start the 2000-01 IceRays had to begin the season. Coincidentally, both teams had their perfect record broken by the El Paso Buzzards.

GIFFIN HONORED: Center Rob Giffin became the first IceRay to receive league honors this season after being recognized as the CHL Player of the Week for the week of 10/21 through 10/27. In three games, Giffin tallied 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points, and catapulted Chris Richards of New Mexico for the league lead in scoring with 12 points. Giffin had back to back 4 point outings on Friday (1 goal, 3 assists) and Saturday (2 goals, 2 assists) and added 2 assists in the loss against El Paso on Sunday.

SHOULDERING THE LOAD: The IceRays top line of Rob Giffin, Layne Roland, and John Sicinski enjoyed a career weekend combining for 24 of the IceRays' 34 total points in three games. Giffin, who was honored as the CHL Player of the Week led the charge with 3 goals and 7 assists while Roland made a strong case for his own candidacy scoring 4 goals and adding 4 assists. Sicinski capped off the scoring with 3 goals and 3 assists.

POWER SUPPLY: The IceRays power play converted 6 times this weekend on 20 chances (30%). So far this season the IceRays power play is operating at a 22% clip (8-36) which is good for 3rd in the league. Last year the IceRays were a league-worst 13% with the man advantage.

UP NEXT: The IceRays face-off against the Odessa Jackalopes on Halloween night at Memorial Coliseum. On Friday, the Rays travel to Laredo to open the brand new Laredo Entertainment Center against the Bucks. Saturday the IceRays return home for a battle with divisional rival Austin.
