Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 7)-Two goals on the powerplay, a shortie, penalty shot and even strength goal in the overtime gave Texas (22-9-3) the 5-4 win Wednesday evening in Oklahoma City over the Blazers to extend the Brahmas winning streak to six games.

Oklahoma took the 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Simon Lambert and Jason Murfitt but Texas was able to come back in the second period with three special teams goals of their own. Scott Sheppard scored first on the powerplay for his team leading seventeenth goal of the season. A second powerplay goal, this time deflected over Blazers goaltender Doug Groenestege by Grant Jacobsen, followed two minutes later to even the game. Brahmas forward and the CHL's player of the month, Jordan Cameron, gave Texas the 3-2 lead with the Brahmas league leading eleventh shorthanded goal of the season.

Overcoming a two goal deficit, Oklahoma City came back beating Brahmas netminder Brett Jaeger twice in the third to lead the game 4-3. At the 3:24 mark, Brahmas All-Star defenseman Justin Kinnunen was taken down on a breakaway play, giving Texas a penalty shot. Kinnunen proved to the crowd in Oklahoma City why he was named a starter for the All-Star classic when he exhibited poise and patience, beating Groenestege over his shoulder to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The teams skated four men a side in the extra period, but it was Sheppard and the Brahmas who prevailed with just over one minute remaining in the overtime to earn their sixth consecutive victory. It was Sheppard's fourth goal in two nights.

Jaeger stopped 34 of 38 shots and the Texas powerplay went 2-for-7. The Brahmas win was the sixth on the road to tie a franchise record that occurred in 1997.
