Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced that their Mascot Bucky will stay on the roof of the Laredo Entertainment Center until Friday's "Pink in the Rink" game is sold out. The Bucks staff will open the box office 24-hours a day selling tickets to the game. If the game is sold out the Bucks will donate $10,000 to WINGS.
"This gives the great people of Laredo a lot more time to buy tickets to the game until we reach our goal of a sellout", said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowksi. "Fans can buy tickets at any time of the day or night".
Bucky will head onto the roof at 5pm Wednesday night, and is prepared to stay up there until all 8,000 tickets are sold for the game.
"Bucky has a cot and a tent up on the roof", Ruskowski said. "Our staff is ready to sell tickets all day and night as well. We all want to pack this place on Friday".
The Bucks mascot will not be alone on the roof, as members of the community will join him at different times of the day and night until the game is sold out.
WINGS (Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving, Sharing) is a non-profit organization that provides top-quality, comprehensive breast cancer treatment services to uninsured and underinsured breast cancer patients. WINGS has served Central and South Texas for over nine years, and now, WINGS Laredo is the newest chapter to bring these life-saving services directly to the women and men of Laredo.
"Everyone's life has been affected in some way by breast cancer", said Ruskowski. "This game is for a great cause, and we know the City of Laredo, and Bucks fans will be behind us all the way to sell this game out".
The Bucks will hold a "pink out" Friday night, as they will wear pink jersey's, and they will ask fans to wear pink to the game to support the cause. Before the game 5,000 pink thunder stix will also be handed out to fans.
The Jersey's will be auctioned off after the game.
The last time the Bucks held an event like this was March 9, 2007, when the LEC was sold out with 8,002 fans. Thanks to the sell out crowd the Bucks donated $10,000 to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes).
During game one of last season's Southern Conference Semi-Finals the Bucks, along with Laredo Energy and Border Lease offered $5 tickets to benefit South Texas Food Bank, and Sacred Heart Children Home. 7,987 fans packed the LEC, and the Bucks donated $10,000 each to South Texas Food Bank and Sacred Heart Children Home.
"When we have held events like this in the past, the fans and the City have responded tremendously", Ruskowski said. "Let's do it again Laredo".
