Robertson's Hat Trick Not Enough

[BROOMFIELD, Col.]-Despite Chris Robertson's third hat trick of the season, the Scorpions fell 5-3 in Rocky Mountain. It was the first time in the season series the home team won.

Rocky Mountain came out of the gates hard with three goals in the first period. David Morelli scored a rebound goal at 7:11 of the first period making it 1-0. Daymen Rycroft scored his 13th goal of the season when his slap shot found the back of the net. Brent Cullaton made it 3-0 with a breakaway shorthanded goal, with 37 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

The Rage increased their lead as Tyler Butler got room in front of the net 5:53 into the second period. Chris Robertson strapped the Scorpions on his back scoring two goals, to make it a 4-2 game. Robertson's first goal of the night was the 100th of his career. The lead was pushed back to three as Scott Wray's wrist shot found the back of the night 17:58 into the middle period.

Things looked good as Robertson finished his hat trick 2:58 into the third period making it 5-3. The Scorpions had their chances in the final frame, including a penalty shot Craig Macdonald could not convert with 5:57 to go.

After an off day the same two teams will battle on Friday night at the Broomfield Event Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and can been seen exclusively on the CHL Network free of charge.

The Scorpions return home on Wednesday, January 21st to face Odessa on $1 Nacho Night. American Cancer Night comes up on Saturday, January 24th. Special jerseys will be worn with a post game auction to benefit the Relay for Life. Both games start at 7:15 p.m.
