
Brahmas Top Rayz 3-2 In Shootout

In a night when IceRays nostalgia was in the air, overtime was not enough for the Corpus Christi Rayz to escape with a win versus the Texas Brahmas on Saturday Night from the American Bank Center. The Rayz are currently 6 points behind Austin for the final playoff spot in the Southern Conference. The Rayz will end their season on a 4-game road trip that begins on Sunday at 4:08pm against the Austin Ice Bats. Tune into ESPN 1230AM or Nifty CHL Network to catch the game. In the first period, the Rayz scored first. Geno Parrish found Justin Quenneville who scored the goal from the left circle at 7:40 giving Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead. Just 21 seconds later at 9:34, the Brahmas answered with a powerplay goal from Grant Jacobsen. The goal was assisted by Blair Manning and Scott Sheppard tying the game at 1-1. At 15:42, Jay Latulippe fed Justin Quenneville who burst past the Brahma defense and scored. The goal was Quenneville's second of the night and put the Rayz up 2-1 going into the first intermission.
At 13:07 of the second period, the Brahmas tied the game at 2-2. Grant Jacobsen scored on an open net after passes from Blair Manning and Scott Shepard. That score stood going into the second intermission.
The Corpus Christi and Texas would stay scoreless in the third period and overtime and the teams would head to a shootout.
In the shootout, Brahma goaltender, David Cacciola stoned all 4 Rayz shooters, while Texas' Jordan Cameron and Tyler Skworchinski scored against Rayz goalie Jason Tapp, leading the Brahmas to the 3-2 win.
Jason Tapp made 42 saves on 44 shots and took the overtime loss, dropping to 21-26-7. Texas goaltender David Cacciola got the win with 43 saves on 45 shots. His record improved to 25-14-1. Corpus Christi went 0-5 on the power play and Texas was 1-5 with the extra man. The Rayz out shot the Brahmas 45-44.
