New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ BROOMFIELD, Colo.]-The Scorpions outscored Rocky Mountain 8-5 on Saturday. The win pushed New Mexico to the third seed in the Southern Conference.

New Mexico got out of the gates with a great first period. Vladimir Hartinger started the night's scoring at the 7:48 mark with his patented slap shot.

The Rage went to a power play and tied the game up. Former Scorpion, Jeremy Garrison found Simon Watson streaking to the net. Watson tipped home the shot tying the game at one.

The Scorpions took back control with multiple goals. Shawn Skiehar took a shot that was blocked by a Rage defenseman. The puck rolled toward the crease where Rocky Mountain's Clay Plume mistakenly kicked it past his own goaltender, giving the Scorps back the lead 13:40 into the first period.

Two minutes later, Craig Macdonald found a rebound and open net and pushed the lead to 3-1. With the Scorpions shorthanded, Jay Holladay scored his first professional goal, giving New Mexico a three goal lead.

The offense continued in the second period as the teams combined for six goals. Dunbar misplayed the puck directly to Konrad Reeder 13 seconds into the middle period. Chris Robertson gave the Scorpions their biggest lead of the game with his 30th goal of the season at the 3:04 mark.

The Rage tried to comeback with two goals of their own. Brent Cullaton's shot snuck just under the arm of New Mexico goalie Andrew Martin and into the net. Rob Chappell cut the Scorps lead down to three goals with his third goal of the season.

Back to the power play went New Mexico and back to the offense went Reeder. Vladimir Hartinger found a streaking Reeder who caught the pass and finished with a breakaway goal.

Rocky Mountain gained a two man advantage a couple of minutes later. Tyler Butler launched a slap shot from the blue line that rattled the twine and made it a 7-4 game. Ladislav Kouba brought the Rage to within two early in the third period.
