Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 16)- A Brahmas win Friday night would give Head Coach Dan Wildfong the franchise record for wins with 63 victories. With that in mind, Brahmas newest forward, Travis Banga and goaltender Brett Jaeger led the charge handing Wildfong the milestone and the Arizona Sundogs the 5-0 shutout win.
Kevin McLeod beat Marco Emond on the Brahmas second powerplay of the evening at the 13:04 mark in the first for his seventh of the season. Scott Sheppard and Nathan Saunders recorded the assists for the 1-0 lead.
Jaeger and his d-core kept things in line in the second, not giving up a shot despite facing 17 shots. It was a tantalizing goal line save from captain Craig Minard that kept Arizona scoreless in the period and gave Texas the additional push for the sold-out crowd at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
Forward Matt Quinn displayed great puck handling skills and a great shot when he scored from the point on Emond with four minutes remaining in the game. The Brahmas third ranked powerplay went on the job at the 2:00 mark in the second, and it was number 17, Scott Sheppard, scoring with: 17 seconds left to give the Brahmas the 3-0 advantage. Jason Deitsch, returning from his call up from the Houston Aeros (AHL) and Justin Kinnunen assisted on Sheppard team leading 19th of the season.
Texas kept things pumping in the final period, and Banga found his comfort level with his new linemates scoring twice, leading to a goaltender change for the Sundogs. Jaeger remained solid in net, not giving up a single shot in the 37 he faced, earning his 17th victory of the season and second shutout of the year.
