BROOMFIELD, CO- The Wichita Thunder fell to the Rocky Mountain Rage 7-1 at the Broomfield Event Center on Friday night.
Rage forward David Morelli scored a natural hat trick over the first and second periods to lead Rocky Mountain's offense.
Kai Magnussen scored at 10:02 in the first period to give the Rage a 1-0 lead. One minute and four seconds later, Morelli scored his first goal of the night.
Morelli then scored a shorthanded goal at 0:16 in the second, and capped off the hat trick by knocking in a rebound at 4:11. Scott Wray and Colt King added second period goals, giving the Rage a 6-0 lead.
Troy Ofukany got the Thunder on the board at 2:18 in the third period, getting assists from Joel Hanson and Jason Duda. Daymen Rycroft closed out the scoring for the night at 16:29 in the third.
Krister Toews took the loss, saving 27 of 34 shots. Scott Reid earned the win, saving 20 of 21. Wichita went 0 for 6 on the power play, while going 0 for 1 on the penalty kill.
