
Bes Scores 900th Career Point In Bucks Win

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 6-3 Friday night at the American Bank Center. Laredo has now won two straight games to improve to 21-10-4 (46pts). The Bucks are still three points behind the Texas Brahmas in the Southeast Division.
Jeff Bes passed another milestone Friday night, as he scored his 900th career point in the win. Bes scored a goal and handed out three assists on the evening.
Alex Goupil scored twice to help lead the Bucks.
Goupil has now scored 12 goals in 11 games against the Ice Rays since joining the Bucks in February 2008.
With the win Laredo snaps their seven-game road winless streak.
The Bucks jumped out in front 1-0 for the second straight game, as Alex Goupil took a laser pass from Jeff Bes on a two-on-one break and sent the puck into the back of the net. The goal was Goupil's 16th of the year, with Bes (40) and Serge Dube (21) picking up assists.
Laredo would increase their lead to 2-0 with 2:05 left in the first. The Bucks threw the puck towards the Ice Rays net, and Matt Miller deflected it past Kris Tebbs. Bobby Russell (21) and Steve Weidlich (9) had assists. Miller has scored five goals in nine games thus far for the Bucks.
Laredo outshot Corpus in the first period 14-7.
Corpus would cut the Bucks lead in half to 2-1, when Matt Smyth deflected a shot past Ryan Gibb. The strike was just Smyth's second of the year.
The Bucks would make it 3-1 when they scored on a four-on-three power-play with 3:08 left in the second. Dube sent a cross-ice pass to Bes who tipped it in past Tebbs from the left side of the crease. The goal was Bes' 13th of the year, with Dube (22) and Weidlich (10) picking up assists.
The Ice Rays would make it 3-2 Bucks with 1:22 left in the second when Ryan Bennett was given credit for a goal was was knocked in by a Laredo defender. Bennett now leads the Ice Rays with 19 goals on the season.
Corpus outshot Laredo in the second 22-8.
The Bucks would make it 4-2 just 1:08 into the third, when Goupil tallied a power-play goal off of a pass from Bes. With that assist Bes picked up his 900th career point.
Corpus would make it 4-3 Laredo with 5:38 left in the third, when Mike Zbringer hammerd a shot from the right circle past Gibb.
Rick Kozak would give the Bucks a 5-3 lead when he tipped in a Bes pass on the power-play with 2:22 left in the third. It was Kozak's 13 of the year.
Bobby Russell would add a short-handed empty netter with 32 seconds left to make it 6-3.
Gibb improves to 8-2-2 in net for Laredo, as he stopped 40 of 43 Ice Rays shots.
The Bucks were outshot in the game 43-34.
Laredo has a huge divisional match-up Saturday night when they travel to take on the Texas Brahmas.
