Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - It was just an exhibition game, but that didn't stop the Brahmas faithful from attending as Texas hosted new cross town rival, Allen Americans, at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The Brahmas fell 3-1 for their final preseason game.
The game started slow as linemates adjusted to one another on the ice, and it was Allen winger Britt Dougherty who put the first tally on the boards as he took a Liam Huculak pass over Brahmas starter Brett Jaeger. The Americans did not have long to celebrate when a minute later newcomer Mark Rooneem answered with a goal of his own for a 1-1 tie. Pete Rouleau was credited with the assist.
Ten minutes of skating up and down the ice with few whistles, it seemed as if Texas had their second goal when Mike Willemsen slapped the puck past American netminder Charlie Effinger, but it was called back leaving the raucous crowd at NYTEX upset. With just over a minute remaining in the middle frame, Allen was able to regain the lead with a goal from Tobias Whelan who took the puck top shelf.
The third went gloomy once again when the Americans scored their third goal of the evening to complete the night. Texas outshot Allen 29-28 and finished with a 1-1 record in the preseason.
Texas opens the regular season on the road next Friday as they take on the Colorado Eagles for a CHL Finals rematch of last season. The Champions will return to the NYTEX Sports Centre Saturday, October 24 for a 7:05 PM game against the Mississippi RiverKings and to raise the division, conference and championship banners. For tickets please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or log on to www.brahmas.com.
* Sitting out for the Brahmas were: Grant Jacobsen, Justin Kinnunen, Kevin McLeod, Craig Minard and Jordan Cameron.
