
Bucks Fall In OT To End Preseason

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 5-4 in overtime Saturday night in their final preseason game.
Corpus Christi's Maxime Boisclair scored from the right side of the crease with just one second left in overtime lifting the Ice Rays to the win.
Dan Spence suffered the loss in net stopping nine of 13 shots, while Tommy Lee picked up the win in goal for the Ice Rays as he set aside 16 of 20 Bucks shots.
Neither team was able to score in the first period, as the game was scoreless after 20 minutes. The Bucks were outshot in the first period 14-6, as they killed off two Ice Rays power-plays.
The Ice Rays took a 2-0 lead in the second period, as Rob Jarvis scored twice for Corpus in a four-minute span. Jarvis's second goal was on the power-play.
Kyle Gajewski started the game and was replaced midway through the second period by Dan Spence. Gajewski stopped 22 of 23 Ice Rays shots he faced.
The Bucks cut the Ice Rays lead to 2-1 with 3:50 left in the second period, as Evan Schwabe stuffed in a rebound past Ice Rays goaltender Tommy Lee. Maxime Lincourt and Nick Klaren picked up assists for the Bucks. Lee replaced starter Kevin Desfosses in net midway through the second period, with Desfosses setting aside all 10 Laredo shots he faced.
The Bucks were outshot in the second period 11-8.
The Ice Rays would make it 3-1 with 13:20 left in the third period when Chad Woollard scored a power-play goal from the left circle.
Laredo would score three straight goals, including two on the power-play to take a 4-3 lead with under six minutes left in the game.
The Bucks would cut the Ice Rays lead to 3-2 when Blair Hawes struck on a two-man advantage with 9:06 left in the third period. Hawes slammed home a shot from the bottom of the right circle.Tomas Sample and Kevin Flather had the assists.
Maxime Lincourt would tie the game with a power-play goal just 36 seconds later when he hammered home a slap shot from the top of the left circle. Justin Styffe had the assist.
Evan Schwabe would put the Bucks up 4-3 with 6:44 left in the third, when he scored from the bottom of the left circle.
Jarvis tied the game at 4-4 over a minute later when he streaked down the left side and knocked in a shot from the hash marks.
Laredo was once-again without many of their top players Saturday night, as Jeff Bes and Darryl Smith coached from the bench while President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski scouted from the stands. Adam Rivet, Igor Agarunov, Mike Looby and Ryan Salvis also did not suit up for the Bucks.
The Bucks open the regular season next Friday (Oct 16th) when they travel to take on long-time rival Bossier-Shreveport, before traveling to Rio Grande Valley the next night.
The Bucks will open their eighth season in the Gateway City on October 24th at the LEC, with the first 1,000 fans entering the arena receiving a FREE Bucks "Believe in Blue" picture frame. The Bucks will host the 2010 CHL All-Star Game January 13th. For ticket information call 718-BUCK (2825).
