Mudbugs Earn 6-1 Preseason Win Over RiverKings

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Six different goal scorers paced the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a 6-1 victory in their second and final preseason game against the Mississippi RiverKings Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center. Three of the six tallies came on powerplays, where the ‘Bugs finished 3 for 6 on the night.

Tyler Liebel had a strong home debut with three assists, while Mark Johnson and Mike Salekin each had two. Joe Ori finished with a goal and an assist.

Joe Zappala, playing his first game as a Mudbug after sitting out last night, buried a feed from Brett Smith on the powerplay to give Bossier-Shreveport a 1-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.

The ‘Bugs then exploded for four goals in the second period, starting with Tyrel Lucas' powerplay goal just two minutes in. Kevin Cooper, Joe Blaznek (powerplay) and Joe Ori tacked on goals to build the lead to 5-0 before Ryan Held got the RiverKings on the scoreboard midway through the period. Three fights broke out in the second, with Mark Johnson taking on Nic Bachand, Tyler Liebel battling Darrell Stoddard and Dave Pszenyczny going with Tyler Bellamy.

Simon Mangos scored the only goal of the third period to cap off the 6-1 win, but not before Joe Zappala and Bachand squared off late in the game.

Mississippi outshot Bossier-Shreveport 24-22, but finished 0-3 on the powerplay. Ken Carroll made 23 saves and earned the win, while his counterpart Matt Lopes stopped 16 shots in the loss.
