Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 18)- Friday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre was a night of firsts as Brahmas forward Mark Carragher recorded his first goal and goaltender Brett Jaeger his first win at home as they defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-2.
Texas played tenaciously in the opening period, recording 19 shots on goal on Killer Bee's goaltender David Lemanowicz. In the final two minutes of the first, Rio Grande had Brahmas netminder Jaeger doing cartwheels as they peppered numerous shots at the net.
The second period highlighted the Brahmas offensive flair as forward Anders Strome notched his team leading 16th goal of the season from Craig Minard and Chris Thompson.
Texas continued to move ahead in the final period when Mark Carragher's hard work this season paid off when his shot found the back of the net at the 5:28 mark. Rio Grande's Rob Voltera kept his Bees in the game with a powerplay goal around the midway mark. The Brahmas offense was still hot when forward Grant Jacobsen recorded his fifth goal of the season from linemates Jordan Cameron and Chris Thompson, putting Texas up 3-1.
The fans at NYTEX welcomed back former forward and enforcer Robin Big Snake, but Brahma Mark Cody did not as they tangled in the third period. The Killer Bee's powerplay beat Jaeger one more time but was unable to come up with any more strikes. Tyler Skworchinski finished the Bees off with an empty net goal with only :53 seconds remaining and Texas defeated Rio Grande 4-2.
Texas had a team high 47 shots on goal and Brett Jaeger stopped 23 of 25 for his second victory of the season.
Texas plays tomorrow night at the NYTEX Sports Centre against Northeast foe Mississippi at 7:05 PM. The first 1000 fans in attendance will receive Brahmas caps courtesy of NYTEX Sports and the Texas Brahmas. Variety rock band, "Triple Lindy" will perform during the second intermission and immediately following the game.
