FORT WORTH --- Wes Mason broke a 2-2 tie at 18:14 of the third period as the Fort Worth Brahmas defeated the Memphis RiverKings 3-2 Tuesday night in Fort Worth. The Brahmas won their first game at the Fort Worth Convention Center since they defeated Oklahoma City 4-2 on December 3.
Memphis fell behind 2-0 on Fort Worth goals from Corey Stillman in the first and All-Star forward Bret Dececco in the second. Travis Banga helped to lift his team's spirits with a power play goal in the final minute of the second to make the score 2-1 going into the third period. It was also Banga that tied the game, due to a great effort from all-star Don Parsons. Parsons, who was selected to his sixth straight CHL All Star Game earlier in the day, out-muscled a Brahma defender for the puck in the corner and fed it to Banga for his second of the game and 12th of the season.
The game would remain tied until 18:14 when Dececco and Mason teamed up on a 2 on 1 for the game-winner. Mason fed Dececco who threw back out in front and Mason able out-battle the converging RiverKings defense to sneak it past goalie Guy St. Vincent.
Shots were at a premium for the game as the teams combined for just 44 shots, 23-21 in favor of Fort Worth. The Brahmas snapped a five game home game losing streak and leap-frogged over Memphis for third in the Northeast Division. The RiverKings dropped their second straight as they head home to play the next six at the DCC. The RiverKings host Oklahoma City on Friday night at 7:05.
