Hiebert, who is tied for the Bucks team lead with 11 goals and is tied for the team lead with 39 points, is making his first All-Star appearance. The, 23-year old native of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, is on pace to exceed his career highs for goals, assists, and points set last season. The third year pro has spent his entire career with the Bucks.
"It is a big honor to be picked to the All-Star team," Hiebert said. "I feel like I have come a long way over the last few years and it's nice to be honored this way."
Hiebert currently ranks third among Southern Conference forwards in points and is tied for seventh in the CHL in scoring.
Hiebert totaled a career high 59 points in 58 games in the 2004-05 CHL campaign. He had a career high 18 goals and 41 assists and he led the Bucks with a career high 243 PIMs. In the 2005 CHL playoffs he tied for the team lead with 14 points on four goals and 10 helpers.
The 5' 10" 195 pound forward picked up the nickname âCaptain Crunch' last season because of his stellar play down the stretch as he helped the Bucks make the playoffs and advance to the President's Cup Finals for the second straight season. He had 10 goals and 16 assists in the last 16 games of the regular season as the Bucks closed the year 12-0-1 to capture the Southern Conference regular season championship on the last day.
In the 2003-04 CHL season Hiebert put up solid numbers as a rookie. In 61 games he had 16 goals and 26 assists as he helped the Bucks post a CHL best 48-8-8 record. In the 2004 CHL playoffs he tied for the playoff lead with eight goals. He had 14 points in 15 games as the Bucks captured the President's Cup.
Hiebert was the fourth highest vote getter among Southern Conference forwards, just missing selection to the starting lineup.
"James has had an exceptional year for us," Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski said. "He has done everything we have asked and more. He certainly deserves it because of his play the whole season long."
Ruskowski will be the Southern Conference All-Star head coach, an honor earned by the Bucks having the best winning percentage in the Southern Conference.
Hiebert will join Bucks forward Jeff Bes and defenseman Serge Dube were selected as starters for the Southern Conference All-Star team. Bucks athletic trainer Bobby Moore and equipment manager Rusty Aldridge will also participate as part of Ruskowski's staff.
The starters were selected in a vote by the coaches, media and team broadcasters. The reserves were selected by the respective All-Star head coaches.
