Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 22)- There was nothing haunting about this win as the Brahmas stretched their home game winning streak to 13 as they beat the Oklahoma City Blazers 5-3 Sunday afternoon.
Following a night in which they clinched a playoff position, the Brahmas had to flex their muscles Sunday afternoon in their third game in as many days. The league leading shorthanded goal leaders started the scoring when they added to their collection as Jordan Cameron netted his fifth shortie of the season to give Texas the 1-0 lead. Oklahoma City tied the game late in the period with an unassisted goal from Robin Gomez.
In the second period a patient Scott Sheppard fed a pass to Brandon Benedict to put Texas up once again, 2-1. Blazers defenseman Tyler Harder tied things up on the powerplay one minute later. Oklahoma City then became familiarized with the penalty box in the second, giving Texas two 5-on-3 opportunities. The Brahmas' third ranked powerplay went to work and forward Jason Deitsch found an open net for his 15th of the season. Two minutes later, Deitsch on an identical play beat Blazers netminder Andy Franck with the man advantage, giving the Brahmas the 4-2 lead. Oklahoma City returned with one more goal putting the game within one shot, but as the offensive battle ensued, so did the physical battles on the ice. With just under two minutes remaining in the middle frame, Brahmas enforcer Nathan Saunders and Blazers Simon Lambert tangled up, both earning game misconducts. Fisticuffs brewed between Detisch and Oklahoma's Josh Patterson, each earning five minute majors.
Kevin McLeod capped things off for the Brahmas going top shelf on Franck with three minutes remaining in the game. Brahmas goaltender David Cacciola played strong stopping 40 of 43 shots, earning the game's first star recognition.
The Brahmas next game is Tuesday, February 24 when they travel to Corpus Christi to face the IceRays for a Southeast divisional battle at 7:05 PM. Texas returns home Friday to the NYTEX Sports Centre to play Amarillo at 7:05 PM. The first 1000 fans in attendance will receive a free puck.
