Turnovers Cost Jacks in Wild Third Period

(Odessa, TX) - It was a wild finish to Sunday's game at the Ector County Coliseum as the final three minutes of the third period saw two ties and a one-goal lead disappear through a flurry of goals. Seth Leonard and the Scorpions finally put up a lead that would hold from his game winner with 34 seconds remaining in the third period, as the Jacks lost 5-4. Odessa turnovers in the defensive zone led to the Scorpions scoring their final two goals.

Craig MacDonald gave New Mexico a 4-3 lead on an even strength goal with 2:02 remaining in the third. Kory Karlander tied it up :18 seconds later for Odessa, before Leonard netted the game winner. Odessa's Collin Circelli scored in the third period to tie the game a 3-3, Mike MacDonald and Neil Trimm also scored for the Scorpions in the final frame.

New Mexico began the scoring in the first period on an Andrew Smale goal at 16:39. Dominic Leveille tied the game at 1-1 with a Jacks' goal at 19:29 of the first period.

Sebastien Thinel scored the second period's only goal for the Odessa Jackalopes.

The magic number for the Odessa Jackalopes remains at one to clinch the Southwest Division title and punch their ticket to the CHL playoffs.

The homestand continues for Odessa on Tuesday when Mississippi comes to town for a Mardi Gras matchup at 7:05 PM at the Ector County Coliseum.
