New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ODESSA, Texas]-In a feverish final three minutes the Scorpions grabbed a 5-4 victory over Odessa on Sunday afternoon. Seth Leonard scored the game winning goal with just 33 seconds showing on the clock.

The Scorpions were down a goal after the second period and made their first third period comeback of the season. Neil Trimm tied the game 4:10 into the final frame. For the first time since the opening period the Scorps grabbed the lead as Mike MacDonald stymied his old team with his third goal of the season.

Less than four minutes later the home team excited their fans as Colin Circelli put a rebound home on the power play. Little did anyone know that was the calm before the storm.

Craig Macdonald put New Mexico back on top, 4-3, with his 30th goal of a season, a career high, at the 17:58 mark. Kory Karlander re-tied the game 18 seconds later as they pulled their goalie in favor of the extra attacker. Minutes later the Leonard goal tickled the twine and ignited a great celebration on his team's bench.

Much like last night the Scorpions were outshot in the first period but headed to the locker room tied. Jamie Herrington made an amazing pass through his own legs across the crease to Andrew Smale. In one sweeping motion Smale scored for the second time this season.

Odessa answered with less than a minute remaining in the opening frame. Dominic Leveille came from the back side circle and fired the puck just under the cross bar, tying the game at one.

Sebastien Thinel picked off a pass inside the Scorpions zone early in the second period. He then stuffed the puck just past the goal line giving Odessa a 2-1 lead at the 43 second mark.

New Mexico returns to the Santa Ana Star Center on against Amarillo. It is $1 soda night, so bring your friends and drink up.

On Friday March 6th the Scorpions will host the annual Lobo Club night. Special UNM themed jerseys will be worn and auctioned off following the game to benefit the Lobo Club.

Group tickets specials are available for as little as 10 people. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
