Bucks Close Out Road Trip With 5-1 Win

AMARILLO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Amarillo Gorillas 5-1 Sunday afternoon at the Amarillo Civic Center. With the win the Bucks snapped their two-game losing streak to finish 3-2 on their season-high five-game road trip. Laredo improves to 29-18-4 (62pts).

Five different Bucks scored goals Sunday, with Andrew Martin stopping 27 of 28 shots in net.

The Bucks (10-12-3 on the road) jumped out in front of the Gorillas 1-0 for the second straight game, as Serge Dube jammed in a shot from the right side of the crease past A.J Bucchino. Dube's goal was his 10th of the season, with Brent Cullaton (47) picking up the assist.

Laredo is now 19-6 this season when they score first.

The Gorillas (15-32-3) would come right back and tie the game at 1-1 just 47 seconds later, when Joe Guenther poked in a shot from the right side of the crease. The goal was Guenther's third in the last two games against the Bucks, and his team-leading 24th of the season.

Laredo would re-take the lead 36 seconds later, when Darryl Smith deflected a Jaye Judd slap shot by Bucchino. The goal was Smith's CHL-leading 31 of the season, with Judd (5), and Josh Bonar (3) picking up assists.

Matt Miller would put the Bucks up 3-1 with 5:03 left in the first period, when he sent a shot in from the right corner past Bucchino. The goal was Miller's second in as many games against his former team, and his 11 of the season. Ryan Salvis (19) and Steve Weidlich (11) picked up assists on Miller's tally.

The Bucks were outshot in the first period 11-9.

The second period was scoreless, as neither the Bucks or Gorillas could light the lamp.

Laredo outshot Amarillo in the second period 14-9.

The Bucks scored two power-play goals in the third period to increase their lead to 5-1. Igor Agarunov (12) and Ryan Salvis (12) tallied with the man advantage for Laredo.

Laredo outshot Amarillo for the game 37-28.

Bucchino stopped 32 of 37 shots as he suffered the loss for the Gorillas.

The Bucks finished up their season high five-game road trip Sunday. During the road swing the Bucks played five games in 10 days, and traveled a total of 3,398 miles.

Laredo will return home for the final Big Buck Thirsty Thursday of the season on February 26th when they host Arizona at the LEC, where beer will be $2 all game long.
