
Bradenton Loses Series Opener To Macon

Macon, GA- The Bradenton Juice started the first of a three game series with the Macon Music on Thursday night but things did not go The Juice's way as they lost 7-4. Macon got a solid starting pitching performance from Vern Sterry and timely hitting to get its 20th victory of the year.
Macon scored first with 3 runs in the Top of the 1st inning. KJ Hendricks led off with an infield single and the next batter Rick Simpson reached on an error. Two batters later one of the top hitters in the South Coast League Scott Robinson singled to right field driving in two runs. Two batters Mike DeVeaux smacked a single to left field that plated Robinson giving the Music a 3-0 lead.
Bradenton got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning with Luke Barganier leading off with a single to center field. Julius Thames followed with a single to right field and three batters later Mikela Olsen singled to center field scoring Barganier.
The Juice scored next in the 3rd inning with Julius Thames hitting a one-out triple to right field. The next batter Al Corbeil grounded out to the shortstop driving in Thames from third base making it 3-2 Macon.
Macon scored again in the 4th when Ismael Castro lifted a two-out, 3-run homer over the left field wall putting the Music up by a score of 6-2.
After the Music tacked on a run in the 6th inning the Juice did not give up despite being down 5 runs heading into the Bottom of the 9th inning. In the 9th Mikela Olsen led off with a double to center field. Brenan Herrera followed with an infield single and Olsen scored on the play when the shortstop's throw was high to the first baseman and it went off Robinson's glove at first base. Noah Peery then singled to left field and two batters later pinch hitter Jean Castro drove in the final run of the game on a groundout to second base that plated Herrera making the score 7-4 Macon.
Derek Hawk (1-4) took the loss for Bradenton going 4 innings, allowing 6 runs, 5 earned, 5 hits, 4 walks, and he struck out 2 batters. Vern Sterry (2-2) got the victory for Macon pitching 6 innings, 2 runs (all earned), 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 9.
Of note for Bradenton Julius Thames went 2-4 with a triple, a single, and he scored a run in the 3rd inning. Left fielder Mikela Olsen went 3-4 with 2 doubles, a single, an RBI, and he scored a run.
Bradenton's record falls to 16-12 while Macon is 20-10 and 9-2 over its past 11 games.
