Aiken Foxhounds News Release

AIKEN, S.C. - Chad Miller blasted two home runs, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth, as the Aiken Foxhounds (19-12) beat the visiting Anderson Joes (6-25) 5-3 in game two of a three-game series Friday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

After the Hounds had blown a 3-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning, Garth McKinney got on base with a bunt single to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Facing Anderson reliever Will Krout (0-2), Miller ripped a 1-0 offering just over the wall in straightaway center.

Steve Dunham (2-2) allowed a walk and a single with two outs in the ninth, but induced a ground ball from Hector Bong to end the game. The right-hander came on to get the last out in the seventh inning, then pitched the final two innings for the win.

Garth McKinney put the Foxhounds on the board in the bottom of the first, belting a solo home run, his fifth of the season, to left for a 1-0 lead.

Anderson starter Kevin Culpepper again allowed a homer in the third. This time, it was Miller who sent the ball over the wall for a 2-0 lead.

Culpepper left with one out and one on the top of the sixth. Reliever Andy Carter got Josh Eachus to hit into a fielder's choice, but Joe Cuttone followed by hitting a 2-0 pitch down the left-field line for an RBI double.

Aiken starter Anthony Telford's strong effort went for naught when the bullpen blew the 3-0 lead in the seventh. The right-hander pitched 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and zero walks while striking out three.

Ryan Pressley's pinch-hit RBI double plated the first two Joes runs in the top of the seventh and ended the night for Aiken reliever A.J. Montano. Brandon Carter greeted Dunham with a bloop hit that landed in shallow left field for an RBI double to tie the game at 3-3.

A night after committing four errors which led to three unearned runs, the Aiken defense played errorless baseball. The most spectacular play of the night came in the top of the fourth, when Heath Keel's liner ricocheted off Miller's glove at third toward shortstop Tim Sweeney, who made a diving catch for the first out of the inning. Telford then retired the next two hitters on one pitch for a three-pitch frame.

Miller added a double to his two home runs to finish the game 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. McKinney went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Cuttone two hits in three at-bats with an RBI.

Aiken will conclude their series with the Joes on Saturday night at Hernandez Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
