Anderson Joes News Release
AIKEN - Don't let the records of Anderson and Aiken fool you; the teams play tightly fought, exciting games nearly every time they meet. The trend continued Friday night, as the Joes couldn't quite muster a late-game win, falling to the Foxhounds, 5-3, in front of 1,249 at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
Anderson (6-25) failed to score until the seventh inning, having already allowed Aiken (19-12) to score three times. Garth McKinney and Chad Miller fueled the Foxhounds with solo home runs in the first and third innings, respectively, with Joe Cuttone driving in Josh Eachues in the sixth to give Aiken its 3-0 lead.
The Joes rallied, though, tying the game in the seventh. Ryan Pressley, playing only 30 miles from his hometown of Martinez, Ga., hit a pinch-hit, two-run double to bring Anderson within one. Brandon Carter then drove Pressley in the very next at-bat with a double of his own.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, however, with Will Krout on the mound for Anderson, a nightmarish scene played all over again for the Joes. With Krout on the mound May 24 at Aiken, Foxhounds catcher Jeff Timmons hit a walk-off solo home run to break a 10-10 tie in the 12th inning. Friday, the normally stellar Krout allowed a two-run homer to Miller, hitting his second of the night to break the 3-3 tie for good.
Anderson threatened in the top of the ninth, putting runners at first and second with two out, but Hector Borg recorded the Joes' last out for the second night in a row, grounding out to shortstop Tim Sweeney to end the game.
Steve Dunham improved to 2-2 with the win. Krout dropped to 0-2 with the loss, both defeats coming in backbreaking fashion to Aiken at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
Anderson attempts to salvage a win from the series Saturday night, as they meet Aiken again at 7:05. Ronald Ball will make his first start of the year for the Joes, while the Foxhounds counter with Brian Grijalva, who is scheduled to make his first start of the year as well.
