Brad Brach Moves into Cal League Record Book with 38th Save

August 13, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
Lake Elsinore Storm News Release

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Storm closer Brad Brach, who recently broke the Storm single season save record with 33, just eclipsed the single season California League record in saves with 38. The California League saves record was formerly held by San Jose Giants closer Brian Anderson when he saved 37 games for his club in 2006.

Brach, who hails from Freehold, NJ, is in his third season within the Padres organization and shows no signs of slowing down. In those three seasons, Brach has been nothing short of dominant compiling 75 saves in 80 opportunities (4-5 in '08; 33-34 in '09; 38-41 in '10 so far). This season Brach is also 5-1 with a 2.44 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 55.1 innings pitched.

Saves have been a recorded stat since 1969 and only 12 Cal Leaguers, including Brach, have surpassed 30 saves in a season, and he is now only the second to compile over 35 in a single season.

The next milestone Brach will reach to achieve is the Storm all-time saves record of 45 set by Carlos Castillo over two seasons ('95-'96).
