Lancaster Stormers News Release

The first half of the night was about the power show. Then, Mark Brackman took over.

Brackman fired a complete-game three-hitter, leading the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 6-0 win over the Somerset Patriots Wednesday evening at TD Bank Park.

The win kept the Barnstormers 3 1/2 games ahead of York in the Freedom Division. Somerset slipped to seven games behind.

Brackman (2-2) walked one and struck out 11 in the effort. The walk came to Freddie Bynum in the first inning, but the effects were short as Jesse Hoorelbeke quickly grounded into a double play. Jeff Nettles led off the second with a single, and Adam Donachie did likewise in the third. Following the Donachie single, the right-hander from Kansas City retired 21 of the remaining 22 hitters on the night, yielding only a leadoff double to pinch hitter Joe Holden in the eighth on a ball that was ruled to be trapped by Adam Godwin in left center.

In the process, Brackman struck out leadoff hitter Jonny Tucker four times and got Bynum twice. He fell two short of the franchise record of 13.

He did not have to wait long for run support. Fehlandt Lentini singled and stole second with one out in the first inning off Roy Merritt (2-1), then rode home as Tommy Everidge launched his third homer of the season to left.

Everidge also connected again on the first pitch from reliever Derell McCall in the third. Jaime Pedroza belted solo shots in the second and sixth. Lancaster's other run was built on singles by Ryan Harvey, Francisco Hernandez and Godwin in the eighth.

Altogether, Lancaster rapped out 16 hits, including three each by Godwin and Hernandez, against four Somerset pitchers.

The Barnstormers and Patriots conclude their first half meetings with a 7:05 contest Thursday evening at TD Bank Park. John Halama, the Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month for May, will work for the Barnstormers against right-hander Paul Phillips. Both starters own 4-2 records on the season. The game will be aired on 1390-AM, WLAN and on 1600-AM, WPDC along with 1390wlan.com and the I Heart Radio cell phone app, starting at 6:45.
