
Long Island Defeats Bridgeport

(Central Islip, N.Y. - June 6, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (19-20) suffered a loss to the Long Island Ducks (23-16) on Wednesday by a score of 5-3 at Bethpage Ballpark.
Brock Peterson picked up his sixth homer in seven games with a three-run shot to left in the first to propel the Bluefish to the lead. Tht hit was the only one on the night for the Bluefish first baseman. Prentice Redman was one of the baserunners that reached and came home on Peterson's drive. With a walk, the outfielder extended his on-base streak to 36 in a row. Eddie Rogers got on base twice with a walk and a single in the contest while Angelo Flores and Pedro Lopez collected the only other hits on the night.
Long Island scored the final five runs. The offense included a three hit night from Ray Navarrete and two RBI while Reid Gorecki picked up two hits and scored twice for the winning side whil Bryant Nelson had two hits and reached three times.
Bridgeport starter, Raymar Diaz (0-5), suffered the loss as he lasted three-and-two-thirds innings and allowed four runs, five hits and three walks while fanning two. Wynn Pelzer, Kyle Zaleski, and Jesse English combined to throw four-and-a-third frames of one run, five hit, five walk, and six strikeout baseball out of the bullpen.
Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann (4-2) earned the victory as the righthanded pitcher surrendered three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six. Jeremy Hill struck out one in a scoreless eighth while Jon Meloan picked up his eighth save of the year as he did not allow a run in the ninth and fanned one.
Bridgeport finishes a three-game series against the Long Island Ducks on Wednesday. Bridgeport southpaw starter, Isaac Hess (2-3, 6.35 ERA), heads to the mound for Bridgeport against Long Island lefthanded hurler Randy Keisler (3-1, 2.25 ERA).
