Brachold Named Can-Am League Player of the Week

June 21, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Brockton Rox News Release

(Brockton, Mass. - June 21, 2011) -After a slow start to the 2011 season, Keith Brachold's recent numbers have sparked the Rox offense, and made him the obvious choice to be named Can-Am Player of the Week. Brachold is the second consecutive Rox hitter to be awarded the honor, as Ryan Royster was given the award last week.

The Rox rightfielder has been on a tear in his last ten games, as Brachold is hitting .447 with four doubles, five home runs and 18 RBIs, while scoring 11 runs. During that stretch, Brachold is also riding a ten-game hit streak, and in the last week alone, the former Marist standout has driven in 16 RBIs to go along with four round-trippers. His seven RBIs in one game against Rockland alone should have been enough to lock up the player of the week honors for Brachold.

On the season, the Franklin, Mass. native leads the league with 24 RBIs and is second to Royster in the home run chase with seven. Brachold currently is second on the team in hitting as he boasts a .322 average, and leads the Rox in runs scored (22), slugging percentage (.621), and OPS (.989). His success can be directly attributed to the success of the Rox, as Brachold is just 7-for-31 (.226) in the teams' losses, and is 21-for-56 (.375) in the wins.

What has been even more impressive about Brachold is his ability to produce in the clutch. The lefty is batting a cool .333 with runners on-base, and a robust .407 with runners in scoring position. With the bases loaded, Brachold is 2-for-3 with a grand slam, a double, and seven RBIs. Brachold has arguably become the most reliable cleanup hitter in the Can-Am league.

Last season, Brachold led the team with 67 RBIs, which was second most in single season Rox history. His 71 runs scored in 2010 were also second most in team history. This season, Brachold is on pace for 94 RBIs, which would shatter Jud Thigpen's record of 70 in a season.

In his fourth season with the Rox, the 28-year old Brachold has already built quite the legacy here in Brockton. He currently ranks second all-time in homers with 42, and is fourth all-time in Rox history with 178 RBIs.
