Can-Am League Game Recaps

June 21, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

New Jersey 10, New York 0

The Jackals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back Tuesday. With DH Mike Jones batting in three runs and scoring one of his own to lead New Jersey's offensive performance, the Jackals' lead just kept growing. After a five-run seventh, there was little doubt of the outcome. Jackals starting pitcher James Leverton held the Federals scoreless in eight innings, allowing just five hits while striking out six. With the performance, Leverton pulled his season record above .500 at 3-2.

Quebec 2, Pittsfield 1

Trailing 2-0 in the last inning, Pittsfield got an RBI single from Scott Knazec. But the Colonials couldn't mount a comeback after the run and fell to the Capitales, 2-1. Quebec LF Robert Wagner and 2B Seth Henry each belted solo home runs, the only scoring plays for the Capitales of the night. Wagner and Pittsfield 2B Danny Bomback were the only two players with multiple hits, each going 2-for-4. Capitales starting pitcher Bryan Rembisz earned the win after throwing five shutout innings, giving up four hits while striking out three.

Brockton 4, Rockland 1

Rox RF Keith Brachold opened his night with a two-run bomb in the first inning, and Rockland led all the way to a 4-1 victory over the Boulders. The Rox didn't score again until LF Ryan Royster's solo home run opened the ninth, but with starting pitcher Mike Smith allowing just one run in 7.1 innings, the Rox pitching staff didn't need much run support. Brachold registered a hit in each of his four plate appearances, raising his average to .352, but only his first at-bat produced runs. Rockland 1B Cristobal Santana batted in the Boulders' only run on first-inning groundout to Rox 2B Mike Torres.

Worcester 10, Newark 4

The Tornadoes took advantage of two first-inning Bears errors, marching out to a five-run lead. Four of those runs were unearned. Though able to put four runs on the board, the Bears trailed by at least five for the rest of the evening. Nos. 6 and 7 Tornadoes batters, 1B Nick Salotti and catcher Alex Trezza, each went 3-for-5. Salotti batted in three runs while Trezza scored three of his own. Worcester starting pitcher Ryan Bicondoa allowed just one run but didn't factor in the decision, leaving the game before completing five innings of work. Bears nine-hole hitter Kyle LaMotta went 2-for-4 with an RBI, one of just two Newark batters with multiple hits.
