New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, NY) Keith Brachold's fifth inning solo shot put him in the league lead with 16 homeruns while Jon Velasquez hurled seven strong innings as Rockland takes down New Jersey 4-1.
The Boulders jumped out early in the bottom of the second when Matt Nandin's two-out single drove in Ryan Mollica to make the score 1-0. Jon Smith would continue his success from the night before with a follow-up single that brought around Nandin and increased the Boulders lead to 2-0 after six outs.
It would be the Jon Velasquez show after that, as the Rockland starter held the New Jersey bats to just three hits through the first four innings. After allowing one run in the fifth, the righty settled back in to finish seven innings, scattering eight hits and one run while striking out three.
Keith Brachold would add a late Fourth of July firework in the fifth with a solo shot that made the score 4-1 and proved to be the final. The homer broke the tie with Jackals third baseman Nick Giarraputo for the league lead in homeruns.
The Boulders finish the series with New Jersey in the garden state tomorrow at 7 p.m. Rockland returns home Saturday as it begins a four game series with Quebec. Saturday is also Irish heritage day at Provident Bank Park and will feature a special double header. The first game is a battle between the Irish National team and the FDNY team beginning at 3:30 followed by the Boulders.
