New Jersey Jackals News Release
The Jackals could only muster a run, as the Rockland Boulders' starting pitching helped them to a 4-1 victory Thursday night in Pomona.
Rockland recorded back-to-back RBI singles in the second by Matt Nandin and Jon Smith. Keith Brachold would add an RBI single in the third.
Jon Kibler allowed all four runs in his seven innings, but settled down nicely after allowing three runs in the first three innings. The loss drops the lefty to 4-4 this season.
The other Jon... Boulders' starter Jon Velasquez threw seven strong innings. He allowed just a Bryan Sabatella RBI single on eight total hits. He gets his second win of the season to improve to 2-4.
Brachold finished 3-4 at the plate today which included his 16th home run of the season. He is now tied with Nick Giarraputo for the Can-Am's home run lead.
On a toasty Thursday night in the sophomore season of Provident Bank Park, the Jackals drop to 25-20, seven games back of the Quebec Capitales. Quebec has won a Can-Am best seven straight. New Jersey finishes the road trip 3-4 and is now 5-3 against Rockland this season.
Rockland improves to 20-24 - 11.5 games back of Quebec, but more importantly creep to within four-and-a-half games back of New Jersey for the all-important second place spot in the Can-Am standings.
Tomorrow, the Jackals call on left-hander Craig Clark (3.3, 4.66). The Boulders counter with the Pat Moran. Moran is one strikeout behind Quebec's Karl Gelinas for most in the Can-Am league this season.
Despite the first three games being played here at Provident Bank Park, the series finale tomorrow will take pace at Yogi Berra Stadium. First pitch is 7:05. The pregame show starts 10 minutes prior. Corey Scheiner and Mia O'Brien have the call.
