New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, NY) - After being named as a Can-Am League All-Star last season, Keith Brachold picked up where he left off and then some. He has crashed 27 home runs this season through 87 games, already good enough to place second on the league's All-Time Single Season list. He stands just four behind leader Eddie Lantigua, who belted 31 for the Quebec Capitales in 2005. Fans at Provident Bank Park have expressed their support for Brachold with chants of "MVP," and with six of Rockland's final 10 games being played at home, Boulders faithful have a chance to see Can-Am history in the making.
When the Boulders acquired the lefty-hitting slugger prior to the season, Rockland manager and former World Series champ Dave LaPoint believed that he may well have secured the best player in the Can-Am League and Brachold's play has done nothing to dispel that thought.
For a team that has already eclipsed its inaugural season totals in wins and total attendance, as well as most statistical categories, Keith's impact has gone far beyond the long-ball. Along with Ryan Scoma, he is one of just two players to appear in every Boulders game this season and he has been a fixture in left field, where he has been charged with just two errors in 174 chances. Brachold is in the driver's seat for league leaders in home runs (six ahead of New Jersey's Nick Giarraputo) as well as retaining his RBI crown of a year ago as his 76 leads Quebec's Sebastian Boucher and Josue Peley by seven. He is also leading the league in runs scored with 76, seven ahead of Quebec's Jonathan Malo.
Other Boulders shooting for stat leadership include Ryan Scoma, who is fifth in batting average at .323; Ryan Mollica, at second in the league in doubles with 24; Qualon Millender, tied for the lead in triples with four; Bobby Blevins, sixth in ERA at 3.81; Pat Moran, fourth in the circuit with 98 strikeouts; and Adrian Martin, tied for second with 15 saves.
The Boulders return from their road trip to play a three-game series against the New Jersey Jackals from Friday, August 24 through Sunday August 26. After a final road swing to play Worcester, they will wrap up the regular season with a three day Fan Appreciation Weekend set against the American Association's Lincoln SaltDogs from Saturday, September 1, through Monday, September 3. Boulders Baseball offers fun and excitement for the whole family at a reasonable price, all at the scenic setting of America's Best New Ballpark, Provident Bank Park.
