New Jersey Jackals News Release

Jackals first baseman Francisco Caraballo has been named this week's Hitter of the Week for the second time in 2012. He last won the award for the week ending July 8th.

In Caraballo's last five games, the Venezuelan went 10-17, 3 HR, 11 RBI at the plate including a string where Caraballo recorded at least one RBI in seven of nine plate appearances.

In those last five games, New Jersey has stretched their lead over the third-place Rockland Boulders from four-and-a-half to eight-and-a-half games.

Carraballo hit his 100th career home run on June 29th. Since that home run, he has gone 73-197 (.371) at the plate, pushing his average from .242 to .317.

Caraballo was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Astros in 2003 and reached AA Corpus Christi in 2007. In 2008, Caraballo's 23 home runs set a Worcester Tornadoes team record, matched last year by Jackals DH Nick Salotti.

After spending the last two seasons playing ball in Japan, the outfielder-turned-first baseman has returned to the Can-Am league and currently leads the Jackals in RBIs (68 - tied with 3B Nick Giarraputo).

He is the ninth Jackals player to earn Player of the Week honors in 2012. Angel Berroa was the most recent honoree for the week ending August 5th.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
