Bowie beats Thunder

(Bowie, MD)- Bowie Starting pitcher Zach Clark tossed 7 1/3 solid innings to lead the Baysox past Trenton 4-2 on Wednesday night from Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, MD. Trenton has dropped the first two games of the series, and is 0-5 on the season against Bowie.

Bowie (82-55) took the lead in the second inning against Trenton Starting pitcher Eric Hacker (7-4). With the bases loaded and one out, Hacker hit Designated hitter Jonathan Tucker with a pitch forcing home a run to make it 1-0. The Baysox increased the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning. Third baseman Jeff Nettles had an RBI double, and Left fielder Mike Rodriguez lifted a sacrifice fly RBI to plate the two runs. Trenton (82-53) tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to slice the lead to 3-2. Center fielder Colin Curtis connected on a solo home run off of Bowie Starting pitcher Zach Clark in the fifth. In the sixth inning, Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez scored on an RBI groundout by Second baseman Reegie Corona. However, the Baysox scored an insurance run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Shortstop Blake Davis to build the lead back to 4-2. Trenton had two runners in scoring position with one out in the eighth inning, but failed to score. Bowie Reliever Julio Manon struck out the side in the ninth inning to preserve the win, and picked up his 32nd save which leads the Eastern League.

Clark (4-1) scattered five hits and two runs in 7 1/3 innings. He has won three of his last four starts. Clark did not strike out or walk a batter, but he did record 14 groundouts. Hacker allowed three hits and two runs in three-plus innings to take the loss. Hacker left the game after getting hit by a line drive off the bat of Bowie Catcher Matt Wieters in the fourth inning. Gonzalez went 2 x 3 with two doubles in the loss for the Thunder.

Trenton and Bowie wrap up the three-game series on Thursday night from Prince George's Stadium. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Jeff Marquez (0-1, 3.60) will start for Trenton against Bowie RHP Jason Berken (12-3, 3.37).
