Rockland County - The New York Boulders used the long ball on Friday night at Palisades Credit Union Park to defeat the Sussex County Miners 8-3.
It was the fourth win in as many outings for the Boulders against the Miners in Pomona, NY.
Kevonte Mitchell, Jack Sundberg and Phil Capra each homered for New York.
Trailing 2-0, the Boulders used the long ball in the fourth inning to help them score six runs and take a four-run lead. Mitchell led off the frame with a home run, his sixth of the year, off Sussex County starter Max Herrmann.
Tucker Nathans followed with a single before Ray Hernandez popped out. Two batters later the bases were loaded after Ryan Ramiz singled and Capra was hit by a pitch. Phil Caufield then lined a ground-rule double to right that scored two runs and left runners on second and third for Sundberg, who drilled his first home run of the season into the bleachers in right-center to give New York a 6-2 lead.
The home run was Sundberg's third hit of the night after a double in the first inning and a third inning single.
Capra added a two-run shot, his second of the year, in the sixth following a Ramiz single, his third hit of the night.
Sussex County had taken their 2-0 lead on a two-run homer in the third inning by Juan Kelly off of Boulders' starter Orsen Josephina. Those were the only runs Josephina would allow in his six innings of work. He surrendered six hits, walked four and struck out two.
The Miners added a ninth inning run on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Knapp.
Herrmann also lasted six innings. He allowed eight runs on 10 hits while walking one and striking out two.
Josephina got the win to improve to 3-1 on the season, while Herrmann fell to 3-2 with the loss.
