'Brower Power' Guides Florence over Windy City

Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - With the Y'alls and the ThunderBolts trading runs in the middle innings, an RBI-double and a two-run home run from Jordan Brower in the sixth and the eighth innings, respectively, pushed Florence to a 8-4 victory over Windy City Friday night at Y'alls Ballpark.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the sixth inning, Brower started his late-game surge with his double to plate Jackson Pritchard. Later in the inning, Brower touched home himself on a wild pitch after he stole third to give the Y'alls a 5-3 advantage. Two innings later, the Y'alls (29-16) added three insurance runs highlighted by Brower's fourth home run of the season. After a slow start coming off the injured list, Brower now has multiple hits in four straight games with two home runs in that span.

Florence's first three runs came on sacrifice flies by Pritchard and Luis Pintor and on a throwing error by the catcher to allow Brower to score. Windy City (17-27) scored in the first inning on a fielder's choice ground out, and the Bolts tacked on individual runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Brynn Martinez drove in a run on a single, and Rob Calabrese hit a home run. Rob Weissheier got a run back with an RBI-hit in the ninth, but Windy City would get no closer than the four-run win for Florence.

Casey Grimm bounced back on the mound for Florence after a tough professional debut. The southpaw gets the win behind a quality start of seven innings and three earned runs. He scattered six hits, struck out one, and walked nobody. Fellow lefty Jake Fisher takes the loss for Windy City; he lasted five 2/3 innings and allowed five runs (four earned). He also struck out only one batter, as the two teams combined to strike out just three hitters.

With the win and the Evansville-Southern Illinois game postponed, the Y'alls take a one-and-a-half game lead over the second-place Otters, and they are five games above the surging Miners. The West Division is the only Frontier League division with three teams with at least 24 wins.

Windy City and Florence do battle again tomorrow, Saturday, July 17, with Miguel Ausua set to pitch against Johnathon Tripp. First pitch at Y'alls Ballpark will come home at 6:36p ET. Fans are allowed into the ballpark one hour ahead of game time.
