Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The Rockland Boulders broke a 6-6 tie with a 2-RBI triple by Cristobal Santana in the top of the ninth and held on to win 8-6 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field on Wednesday night. Santana ended the game 4-for-5 with the triple and a game-tying solo homer. (Santana's homerun tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the seventh, erasing the only lead Worcester had all game.)

Kyle Wilson picked up the win, tossing two innings of scoreless ball, while Albert Ayala was tagged with the loss. The Tornadoes relieve went one inning, giving up both runs one two hits and two walks. For his second straight outing, Ayala got the final two outs of the ninth with strikeouts.

Matt McDonald got a no decision in his first start of the season for the Tornadoes. He was also converted from a reliever to a starter last season, making 10 starts and 18 overall appearances in 2010. McDonald allowed nine hits, one walk, five strikeouts and five runs in five innings, but three of the runs were unearned. An error by shortstop Tony Patane indirectly led to three runs in the top of the fourth for Rockland. Worcester scored three runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to pull back within a run at 5-4, while Chris Colabello's solo homer tied the game at 5-5 one inning later.

Colabello had two hits, a run scored and two RBI for the second straight game. Alex Nunez extended his hitting streak to 15 games, and added a pair of runs batted in. Alex Nunez, Cam Monger and Ryan Crespi all had stolen bases in the Worcester loss, while Monger scored twice and knocked a run in.

Sean Keeler pitched three innings out of the pen, allowing just one hit (the Santana homerun) while striking out five and walking one.

Adrian Martin allowed three different baserunners on two hits and a fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth, but held on for his eighth save of the season for the Boulders. In his one inning of work, Martin struck out one batter.

Rockland starter Jon Velsazquez allowed six runs (all earned) on eight hits and four walks in his six-inning start, striking out five batters.

Game three of the series is at 7:05pm on Thursday, while the teams will wrap the four-game set up on Friday with another 7:05pm start.
