Rockland County, NY - The New York Boulders rallied with four runs in the eighth inning to pull out a 7-4 win over the New Jersey Jackals on Saturday night at Palisades Credit Union Park.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Tucker Nathans was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. The Jackals' Jake Mulholand then retired Kevonte Mitchell on a groundout, but walked Ryam Ramiz to put runners on first and second.
Matt Vogel relieved Mulholland and struck out Marcus Mastrobuoni. However, he then walked Ray Hernandez to load the bases for Phil Caulfield, who was hit by a pitch to force in Nathans with the tying run. Vogel then walked Phil Capra to force in Ramiz with the run that gave the Boulders a 5-4 lead.
Jack Sundberg's single plated Hernandez and Caulfield with insurance runs that increased the New York lead to 7-4.
Zach Schneider picked up the win for the Boulders with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to improve to 3-0 on the season. Mulholland took the loss for New Jersey in his first decision of the year.
New Jersey grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning. With Dalton Combs on first after walking and two outs, Justin Wylie's drive to deep centerfield could not be handled by Sundberg with Combs scoring and Wylie ending up on third. An infield single by Josh Rehwaldt scored Wylie.
The Jackals increased their advantage to 4-1 with a pair of seventh inning runs - one on a Jason Agresti triple and the other on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Wylie.
New York, however, answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh to pull to within 4-3 on a two-run home run by Caulfield, his second of the season.
The Boulders had taken a 1-0 lead on a second inning solo home run by Mitchell, his eighth of the year.
