New York Boulders News Release

(QUEBEC CITY) - After tying the game in the top of the ninth, the Rockland Boulders were one strike away from forcing extra innings against the Quebec Capitales Friday night. But two hits, an intentional walk and a wild pitch ensued, which resulted in the Boulders falling to the Capitales 4-3 at Le Stade Municipal.

Rockland got on the board first with a two-out rally in the second inning. Charlie Law and Giuseppe Papaccio drew back-to-back walks. Junior Arrojo then belted a base hit to right field that brought Law home and advanced Papaccio to third. Steve Nyisztor could not keep the rally going as he was retired to end the inning.

Quebec took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tim Smith doubled to right to bring Tyler Young home for the first run. Smith came around to score on an RBI single by Jean-Luc Blaquiere.

The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Capitales until the eighth inning, when the Boulders tied the game on an RBI base hit by Law, who finished 2-for-3. The Capitales answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Smith struck again as he drove in the run with an RBI single.

As the game headed to the ninth, Rockland had one more opportunity to tie or take the lead. Stefan Henderson came through with an RBI single with two outs to bring home Jared McDonald and to tie the game at three.

With two out in the bottom of the ninth, Young notched a single on the eighth pitch of his at-bat to begin Quebec's rally. Jonathan Malo followed with a base hit to put runners on the corners. Smith, Quebec's No. 3 hitter, drew an intentional walk to load the bases for Kalian Sams. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Rockland closer Luis Sanz threw a wild pitch, which allowed Young to come home from third, ending the game.

Sanz (0-1) suffered the loss. Boulders starter Bo Budkevics went seven solid innings as he gave up two runs on five hits and struck out six.

Capitales closer Deryk Hooker (2-0) picked up the win after recording the final three outs. Starter Mark Hardy struck out seven and yielded one run on four hits in five innings of work.

This defeat marks the fourth time in as many days that Rockland has come out on the losing end, which is the longest losing streak of the season.

The Boulders are scheduled to play the third game of their four-game series with the Capitals Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
