New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The Jackals extended their winning streak to nine games after holding on to a 3-0 lead in a well pitched match-up with the Shikoko Island All Stars on Friday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

It was a festive night with an international flair, as the All Stars began their Can-Am League tour in Little Falls. The All Stars, a collection of the best talent in independent league baseball in Japan, rung in the moment by exchanging gifts with the Jackals, and, later on saluting both the fans and their opponents after the game concluded.

Between the lines, the match-up didn't disappoint as veteran left-hander Isaac Pavlik twirled a seven-inning gem against Shikoku. Pavlik, scattered seven hits on the day, while striking out five and walking none.

Pavlik's biggest challenge of the night came in the 7th inning with runners on the corners and two out, while facing Ryohei Washiya, who already had a single off Pavlik on the night. Pavlik was able to get the right fielder to pop up to second to end the threat and keep New Jersey in front.

The Jackals offense which had been so prolific in recent days, did just enough against left-handed Itsuki Shoda. The Jackals tacked on a run in the fourth inning on a sac fly RBI by Mark Threlkeld to take a 1-0 lead. Then in the eighth, New Jersey put the game away on a Justin Trapp solo home run to left and a RBI single by Jared Schlehuber to make it 3-0.

For his part, Shoda was very impressive for Shikoku. He held the Jackals to one run over six innings allowing only five hits and striking out three.

The Jackals and Shikoku All Stars resume their series Saturday night at Yogi Berra Stadium at 6:35 p.m. ET USA time. Stay after the game for post-game fireworks!
