Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque, NM - Isotopes starting pitcher Zach Neal was sharp, working six innings of two-run ball, while the offense provided plenty of support in an 8-6 victory over the Salt Lake Bees on Thursday night at Rio Grande Credit Union Field. Albuquerque has equaled their season-high with a four-game win streak.
Salt Lake starter Davis Daniel was forced to throw 44 pitches in the first.
Ryan Vilade led off with a single before Dom Nuñez walked and Elehuris Montero singled to load the bases. After back-to-back strikeouts, Scott Schebler and Bret Boswell each worked a bases-loaded walk to give Albuquerque a 2-0 lead.
D.J. Peterson then delivered the big blow, a two-run double to left for a 4-0 advantage after one.
Neal delivered one of his best starts of the year as he limited the Bees to two runs in six frames while not walking a batter and striking out five. With runners at the corners and one out in the sixth, Neal induced Chad Wallach to ground into a 6-4-3 double play on his final pitch of the evening.
Bret Boswell padded the home team's edge with a solo blast to center field in the sixth, the third straight game he has gone deep.
After Jordan Sheffield issued a free pass to start the seventh, Monte Harrison lofted an opposite-field two-run clout to bring Salt Lake within 5-4.
Albuquerque came roaring right back after the stretch, plating a trio of runs. Montero produced a sacrifice fly before Coco Montes and Boswell each delivered run-scoring hits, Boswell's being a two-out RBI double to give the Isotopes an 8-4 lead.
Matters became a bit dicey in the ninth for the home team. Magneuris Sierra led off the frame with a triple, then after a walk, Zach Lee had an errant pickoff attempt to first base as a run scored. Lee struck out Jake Gatewood for the first out, but Jake Palomacki singled to bring the Bees within 8-6. After Kean Wong lined out, Lee fanned Jose Rojas on a high fastball to end the contest.
Topes Scope:
- Albuquerque has scored in the first inning in six of nine meetings against Salt Lake this season, plating a total of 11 runs in the first frame.
- The Isotopes have won eight of their last nine home games against the Bees dating back to July 29, 2021.
- Five Albuquerque players finished with two hits (Vilade, Nuñez, Carlos Pérez, Boswell and Peterson).
- Boswell has homered in three consecutive games for the first time since June 21-23, 2019 when he was with Double-A Hartford.
- Montero extended his Triple-A hitting streak to 12 games. During the stretch, he is batting .434 (23-for-53) with four homers and 16 RBI
- Carlos Pérez's single in the seventh extended his PCL leading on-base streak to 28 games.
- Peterson has three multi-hit games out of his last nine contests.
- Neal turned in his second quality start of the season and Albuquerque's eighth. He completed six innings for the second time in 2022, as he also did so May 15 vs. Sugar Land in a winning effort.
- Justin Lawrence pitched a perfect eighth with two strikeouts and has tossed a combined three hitless innings with six punchouts over his last two appearances.
- Lee's error snapped a five-game streak without a miscue for the Isotopes. The last error had also come on a pickoff attempt when Ashton Goudeau made a poor throw on June 9 vs. El Paso.
- Bees manager Lou Marson was ejected in the fourth inning for arguing a pace of play violation on Jo Adell that resulted in a strikeout.
On Deck:
The Isotopes host the Bees in game four of the six-game series Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander José Ureña is scheduled to make his third start for Albuquerque, opposed by Salt Lake southpaw Jhonathan Diaz.
