Schaumburg Boomers News Release
AUGUSTA, NJ - The 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers waited through a pair of rain delays but dropped a five-inning shortened game 5-2 at the hands of the Sussex County Miners.
The game started nearly an hour late due to rain. Sussex County opened a 2-0 lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth. William Salas delivered a two-run single on the first pitch of his at bat with two outs to tie the game in the top of the fifth. Sussex County responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, two of which came on a two-run homer from Ariel Sandoval with two outs.
The tarp went on the field after the fifth inning and fireworks lit up the night sky before the game was officially called. Ryan Middendorf tossed a five-inning complete game but suffered the loss. Middendorf tossed two complete games last season. The Boomers managed just two hits against James Mulry, who was a reliever for Schaumburg in 2018. Brett Milazzo doubled in addition to the single from Salas.
The series concludes at 1:05pm Central on Sunday. RHP Shumpei Yoshikawa (0-0, 0.00) will make his debut for the Boomers while Sussex County has yet to declare a starter.
Schaumburg returns home on May 20 to open the home schedule against Trois-Rivieres. The first 1,000 fans will receive a replica 2021 championship ring thanks to Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard as the team raises the banner and receives their rings from the fourth title in team history. All fans will receive a 2022 magnet schedule courtesy of Anthony DeGrado State Farm Agency. Tickets for the 2022 season are on sale now! Visit boomersbaseball.com.
