SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, limited the Southern Illinois Miners to just four hits but suffered a 4-3 loss in 13 innings on Saturday night.
The Boomers fell behind 1-0 when an unearned run scored in the fourth against starter Brett Mabry. Mark Nelson tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the sixth and a James Keller single handed the Boomers a 2-1 lead. Southern Illinois tied the game in the ninth before scoring twice in the 13th, aided by the international tiebreaker. The Boomers got one back in the bottom of the inning on a double from Zack Weigel but a double play ended the game with the tying run at second.
Mabry threw seven innings and allowed just an unearned run in his second start since returning from injury. Paul Kronenfeld doubled twice in the game and drew three walks. Weigel tallied two hits with a run and an RBI. Ken Knudsen took the loss despite working three strong innings in the second longest game in team history.
