Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(28-37) started with a four run first inning and didn't look on their way to a 14-4 win over the Evansville Otters(35-29).
Marcos Derkes led off the game with a walk then stole second. Two batters later, Jose Vargas drove him home with an RBI double, and the Bums were off to the races. Steven Patterson followed with an RBI double of his own then Elijah Trail ripped a two-run homer down the left field line. Evansville got on the board in the third on an RBI sacrifice fly by Kaeo Aliviedo, although Casey Rodrigue made a fantastic diving catch, potentially saving further damage in the inning. In the top of the fifth, Patterson knocked home Vargas with an RBI double, but in the bottom of the frame, Aliviado and Chris Breen each hit RBI singles, cutting the Bums's lead to 6-3.
Traverse City then broke the game open in the sixth inning with a five run outburst. Giancarlo Brugnoni started with a walk and moved to second on a Jeff DeBlieux single. With two away, Rodrigue hit a double to center, scoring both runners, but the Beach Bums weren't done there. After a Vargas walk, Patterson blasted a three run homer, his eleventh long-ball of the year, and it was 10-3. Evansville got one back in the bottom of the inning when Kolten Yamaguchi hit an RBI single.
For the second consecutive inning, the Beach Bums batted around. This time, they sent ten men to the dish. Brugnoni again started it with a walk and scored on a DeBlieux RBI double.
