Rockford RiverHawks News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers broke Sunday's game wide open early.
The Boomers scored 10 times in the first inning and went on to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 15-10.
Schaumburg sent 14 to the plate in the first inning and took advantage of Rockford starter Jordan Liette's control problems. Liette walked four of the game's first five batters and at one point delivered 13 straight balls to four hitters. He walked both Steve McQuail and Chad Mozingo with the bases loaded to start the scoring. A muffed catch by second baseman Ted Obregon on a toss from shortstop Carlos Luciano wiped out a possible double-play chance and brought in two more runs. Jereme Milons singled in two runs to chase Liette from the mound. Liette (0-2) faced nine batters and retired one.
Schaumburg added five runs in the third, two on Nate Baumann's fifth home run of the season and second in as many nights in the series.
Rockford came back beginning in the fourth inning and largely on the back of a five-RBI day from Mike Thomas. Thomas doubled in two in the fourth inning, singled in two in the sixth and singled in another in the ninth.
Michael Hur hit a two-run homer, his eighth of the year, in the Rockford seventh inning.
Schaumburg starter Shane Prance (1-0) gave up five runs on 11 hits over six innings, but picked up his first professional win.
Rockford has lost five of six, including the first two games of the series. The RiverHawks are 0-5 in two visits to Schaumburg this year.
The series finale is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday and will be broadcast live on WNTA-AM (1330).
The RiverHawks are home to play Evansville at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. GFS Marketplace and Village Hearth sponsor 50 Cent Hot Dog Night.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, an independent professional baseball league in its 20th season. Games are broadcast on NTA-FM (100.5) Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
